چکیده

A full four-body implementation of the propagating exterior complex scaling (PECS) method [J. Phys. B 37, L69 (2004)] is developed and applied to the electron-impact of helium in an S-wave model. Time-independent solutions to the Schrödinger equation are found numerically in coordinate space over a wide range of energies and used to evaluate total and differential cross sections for a complete set of threeand four-body processes with benchmark precision. With this model we demonstrate the suitability of the PECS method for the complete solution of the full electron-helium system. Here we detail the theoretical and computational development of the four-body PECS method and present results for three-body channels: single excitation and single ionization. Four-body cross sections are presented in the sequel to this article [Phys. Rev. A 81, 022716 (2010)]. The calculations reveal structure in the total and energy-differential single-ionization cross sections for excited-state targets that is due to interference from autoionization channels and is evident over a wide range of incident electron energies.

Calculation of the total cross section for the ionization of H, He, Ne and Ar atoms by bare ions at the high energy range

In the present work, the total cross-section for the ionization of  H, He, Ne and Ar atoms by +He2+ ، H+ ، Li3 ions has been calculated. In these calculations, a binary encounter approximation in the form of a two-body process between projectile ions and atomic electrons at the high energy range has been implemented. In order to enter the nuclear role of the target atom, the atomic electron vel...

Electron-impact ionization and excitation of helium to the n=1-4 ionic states.

We present high-precision (e,2e) measurements and calculations for the e-He four-body Coulomb breakup problem. Cross-section ratios for ionization and excitation of the first three excited states of He+ relative to the ground state have been measured for incident energies between 112 and 319 eV. Comparing the data with predictions from a state-of-the-art hybrid distorted-wave+convergent R matri...

محاسبه سطح مقطع دیفرانسیلی و کل تهییج تک الکترونی هلیوم در برخورد با پروتون در انرژی‌های میانی و بالا به روش فرمول‌بندی سه جسمی

A three-body model is devised to study differential and total cross sections for the excitation of helium atom under impact of energetic protons. The actual process is a four body one but in the present model the process is simplified into a three-body one. In this model, an electron of helium atom is assumed to be inactive and only one electron of the atom is active. Therefore, the active ele...

Electron-impact double ionization of a model helium atom

Singleand double-ionization processes in electron scattering from a model helium atom are calculated by a direct solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation on a 3D lattice. The Coulomb interaction between the electrons is described by v(r1 ,r2)51/r. and all angular momenta are set to zero. The initial state is a product of the ground state of the model helium atom on a 2D lattice with ...

Two–Electron Atoms in Short Intense Laser Pulses

We discuss a method of solving the time dependent Schrödinger equation for atoms with two active electrons in a strong laser field, which we used in a previous paper [ A. Scrinzi and B. Piraux, Phys. Rev. A 56, R13 (1997) ] to calculate ionization, double excitation and harmonic generation in Helium by short laser pulses. The method employs complex scaling and an expansion in an explicitly corr...
